From solar panels, heat pumps, and energy efficiency ideas, I am here to help my Acton neighbors. I have worked on several solar panel projects, recently had heat pumps installed in my home and I am looking forward to my next car being all electric. My background is in mechanical engineering and I have worked on large corporate sustainability initiatives.
Do you heat your home with natural gas as the primary heating fuel?
If you use natural gas as a cooking or hot water fuel, but not your heating fuel, please select No.

Customers who heat their home with natural gas are also eligible for Mass Save heat pump rebates. As a Mass Save customer, you can sign up for a Mass Save consultation to talk to a Mass Save Decarbonization Specialist at Abode. This consultation will also help guide you through the Mass Save program.

Customers must incorporate weatherization into their heat pump project to ensure the system is sized correctly and optimized for efficiency. The heat pump installation must account for weatherization improvement recommendations or installation.
The Incentive application must be completed by the homeowner and contractor BEFORE heat pump installation detailing weatherization and heat pump proposals.
Whole-Home incentives require that system(s) must be designed to condition 100% of the home’s living space by volume and supply between 90-120% of the heating load at the correct design temperature for the home’s location. A Room by Room Manual J Calculation is the best practice for determining heating load and must be completed by your contractor.
The existing heating and cooling system must be disconnected, and the heat pump must be used as the primary heating and cooling system moving forward. This requirement does not apply to domestic hot water heating.
Whole-Home projects are eligible for incentives on weatherization, 50% of the cost covered up to $3,500 (excluding tax).
Air Source Heat Pumps must be listed on the Qualified Product List
To qualify for a rebate, an outdoor condenser unit must be installed on a stand providing at least 12″ of ground clearance to the base of the condenser unit (unless the unit is adequately shielded against snowfall from the top and sides).
For non-gas-heating customers, to be eligible for a rebate through RMLD, the project must adhere to Abode’s review process.
There are four main requirements to be aware of:

Abode will review the project for approval before installation starts.
Weatherization requirements apply to insulation, ventilation, and air sealing measures only.

After you have chosen which heat pump quote or proposal you plan to move forward with, submit this program application before you install the heat pump system to make sure that you meet the program requirements.

Your rebate will not be fully processed and approved until the RMLD/Abode reviews the Post-Installation QA Form submitted by your installer. Additionally, the contractor must ensure that the Town Wiring Inspection is completed and reported to RMLD.
The Install QA Form must be completed after install by the contractor. In addition to requiring information on the home and the installed system(s), the form also requires a paid invoice and photos of the installed equipment.
Note: Participating weatherization contractors must complete a separate post-installation quality report. Weatherization work may be subject to an on-site inspection.

You indicated that you have existing ductwork, but that there are some hot and cold spots. A heat pump may be able to reuse the existing ducts but some modifications may be needed to improve comfort.
Be sure to ask your contractor to measure the airflow of your duct system to ensure it is compatible with a new heat pump. If it is not, you can consider new ductwork or a ductless heat pump system.
